Hanging Baskets and Street Planters
The hanging baskets scheme in the town centre has grown to 120 baskets sponsored by local businesses with personal commemorative baskets outside the Corn Exchange sponsored by individuals and businesses. The baskets are planted up by East Lothian Council but Blooming Haddington hang and maintain them, as well as organising the composting of the baskets and planters at the end of summer. – Blooming Haddington volunteers water baskets and planters throughout the summer and autumn and the baskets flowered well into October last year.
Blooming Haddington has direct responsibility for the 14 three-tier street planters and 11 potato boxes, with volunteers growing on plants, supplemented by others provided by East Lothian Council.
The plant boxes at the Ideal Garage and at the nearby dentist’s carpark are planted with Fatsia japonica, Aucuba japonica, Geranium Rozanne and ivy for more sustainable planting. Interspersed annuals add additional colour. Apricot Beauty and Queen of the Night tulip bulbs were planted in the autumn of 2018 for additional effect.
