Monument Park

We continue to make progress on our longer-term plan to develop the Monument Park, with helpful guidance from East Lothian Council. The monument and the Giant Redwood tree dominate the garden.

In recent years we have added crocuses and heathers around the memorial.  Thousands of other bulbs (daffodils, crocus and bees mix) have been planted in the lawns.  New seats have been added using the funds from the Tesco blue token scheme with more benches being planned.

In the autumn of 2017, new beds were created and planted with shade-loving plants, thanks to a grant from the Haddington Community Development Trust and donated plants from local nursery, Letham Plants. Varieties include Heucherella ‘Dayglow Pink’, Brunnera macrophylla ‘Jack

Frost’, Hosta ‘Frances Williams’, Persicaria amplexicaulis,

Astilbe ‘Bressingham Beauty’ and Purpurlanze and

Matteuccia struthiopteris.                                                                                       Spring 2019

We use one of the beds for planting annuals with the nearby nursery, which they kindly fund.
